Chiang Rai

Chiang Rai, Thailand's northernmost province, was long isolated from the rest of the country and therefore developed unique cultures. It is a good place to begin jungle treks and to visit the hilltribe villages of ethnic minorities including the Yao and the Akha. They live much as their ancestors did without electicity or processed food. They wear traditonal costumes and offer their fabrics for sale.

Chiang Rai is the gateway to the Golden Triangle.
